Cannabis offers different strains that provide the user different effects. There are three strains of cannabis: sativa, indica, and hybrid. This article will help you understand the differences between these strains.

Indica

Indica is short and stout as a plant (2-4 feet tall), and typically yields smaller (around 2 ounces per plant), higher quality crops (around 18 percent THC) than sativa. Indica is known to thrive in cooler environments and originated in the Middle East. Indica strains have shorter and fatter leaves, and are typically a darker green than sativa leaves.

Indica plants are ideal for indoor growing because of their smaller height. The buds are dense and thick, flowering in the range of 8-12 weeks. The smells and flavors of indica include pungent skunk, pine, earth, hash, or sugary and sweet fruit flavors. Indica strains produce effects that are narcotic-like and very relaxing, typically providing a full-body effect referred to as “couch-lock” because users don’t want to leave their couch. Indica is perfect for those days spent curled up on the sofa watching TV or relaxing. Many people like indica after a long day at work to relieve stress, provide full-body pain relief, and help them fall asleep at night.

Indica strains are ideal for muscle spasms, chronic pain, nausea, appetite stimulation, anxiety, and sleep deprivation. People who suffer from diseases like fibromyalgia, lupus, multiple sclerosis, sleep apnea and insomnia tend to benefit from the effects of indica. Strains with OG or Kush their genetics will provide pain relief coupled with heavy sedative effects.

Hybrids

Hybrids strains consist of plants grown from varying combinations of the sativa and indica strains. There are a wide range of cannabis strains in between sativa and indica.  These strains are known as “hybrids” and are broken down into three categories:

  • Sativa-dominant Hybrids
Offer a cerebral high with a relaxing body effect and provide physical and mental relief.
  • Indica-dominant Hybrids
Provide a relaxing head high with full-body pain relief. This type is recommended for nighttime use for sleep, or daytime relief from minor pain. It is also great for those suffering from all types of autoimmune diseases, as well depression.
  • Even Hybrids (50/50)
Sativa and indica in equal parts make an ideal hybrid for people seeking a perfect balance of medicine for head and body.
